Hi, I'm Ariel Meadow Stallings. I'm the author of Offbeat Bride (Seal Press; 2007, 2009, 2019), PROS BEFORE BROS (self-published, 2019) and the forthcoming From Shitshow To Afterglow (Seal Press / Hachette Book Group, 2020).
My writing likes to poke at the soft places of overlap between culture, identity, relationships, and personal development.
I got my start in the mid-’90s editing a rave magazine, graduated the Columbia Publishing Course in 2001, and then spent most of the ’00s doing marketing for corporations like the Seattle Times, Microsoft, and Amazon. I've dedicated the last 13 years to managing my bootstrapped digital media company, the Offbeat Empire LLC.
My work has reached about 50 million people in the last decade through the Offbeat Empire’s web and social media properties like offbeatbride.com.
So yeah, that's the career stuff. (If you want more, that's what Linkedin is for!)
I'm a middle-aged middle-class white woman. I live in Seattle, but spend a lot of time in San Francisco. I'm the mother of a 10-year-old son. I'm a dancer with a daily devotional practice I call "lapdances for god."
I'm an independent researcher obsessed with business fields like the passion economy and content management, psychological topics like attachment theory and secular mindfulness, to spiritual stuff like the Enneagram and non-duality. I'm bisexual, poly-leaning, and contentedly partnered. I'm a daily meditator and weekly weightlifter.
...Are you exhausted yet? Because I am!
All these identities can get so heavy.
Really, I'm whatever costume / defense mechanism / egoic structure I decide to wear on any given day... Entrepreneurial sparkle queen! My own trophy wife! Sobbing midlife cliche! Emerging, stumbling, fragile-footed multimedia artist! Know it all bossy-face with self-esteem issues! Spiritual pubescent! Sporty ladybro! Recovering anxious attached! Enneatype 3w4! Hero / villain / projection screen for your own internal battles with aspects of yourself!
I'm just one more finger of the same divine hand as you. (Hello, my fellow fingers! 👋)
You can get to know me better on my insta stories over at @findyourafterglow, or by becoming a member of The Afterglow.
With my new book From Shi!tshow To Afterglow publishing this summer, shit's about to get very exciting. Can I keep you posted about book giveaways, exclusive essays, and deleted scenes?
